Hemmings Named As Assistant

27th August 2008
Tony Hemmings has been named as Gary Norton's assistant manager at the club following Steve Hinks' departure last week.

Hemmings, who is currently undertaking his FA level 3 coaching qualification steps up from the role of First Team coach - a role he has held for three seasons. The 40-year-old joined Rovers in 2005 originally as a player but soon was promoted to player coach.

Tony started his playing career at Burton Albion but then moved to Wycombe Wanderers via Northwich Victoria for a fee of £25,000. He then joined Macclesfield Town where he won the FA Trophy - scoring in the Wembley final. At the same time graduated for the England Semi Pro side. Another move saw him join Hednesford Town where he remained for three seasons before moving to Gloucester City and then Ilkeston Town. Chester City then paid £10,000 to give Tony a further taste of league football.

The role of first team coach vacated by Hemmings will see Dave Fleary step up from Reserve Team manager. Fleary started his coaching career with a 3 year spell as a coach for Port Vale's football in the community scheme before he spent a season coaching at the club's centre of excellence. This was followed by a stint working for Stoke Council as a football development coach. He then joined Rovers in 2006 as second string Manager - a job he has held for two seasons.

Neil Taylor - recently recruited by the club to run the ladies team next season has been drafted in to look after the Reserve Team for the time being in a caretaker capacity and will be supported by current Player Assistant Manager Martin Rowntree and Player Coach Andy Dunn.
